INPATIENT HOSPICE AT HACKENSACK UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER: THE FIRST INPATIENT FACILITY IN BERGEN COUNTY (May 2nd, 2007, Hackensack, NJ)
Hospice is a program for patients who have an advanced terminal illness with limited life expectancy. The hospice concept recognizes that the dying and those close to them have special physical, spiritual and emotional needs. Hackensack University Medical Center's specialized In-Patient Hospice Unit is the first in-patient hospice in all of Bergen County. Hospice Medical Director Richard J. Rosenbluth, M.D. said "This hospice provides cancer care from screening to end-of-life...it provides an entire spectrum of care unique in Bergen County". The Inpatient Hospice Team is comprised of physicians, nurses, a socal worker, volunteers, and a chaplain, and provide 24-hour skilled care and emotional support for patients and family coping with a terminal illness. The unit provides an atmosphere of serenity and comfort to provide management of pain and other symptoms, support family members, and help with emotional stress that comes with terminal illness. Each room is spacious enough to accomodate patients and their families including overnight stays for family members if they desire. A family area is provided away from the patient's room where families can gather. The HUMC Inpatient Hospice Unit is located at Prospect Heights Care Center, 336 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601. For more information, call (201) 343-7766. |
